Barry Hall told 60 Minutes earlier this week that he and girlfriend Lauren Brant have been left with ‘no income’ following his sacking from Triple M back in June.
But the former AFL star showed no signs of financial strain on Thursday as he picked up a brand new Holden Trailblazer Z71 from a dealership in Melbourne.
The flash 4WD, which retails for around $57,000, was gifted to Barry by Lauren, who proudly shared a photo of the new vehicle on Instagram.
Happy as Barry! On Thursday, Lauren Brant gifted partner Barry Hall a $57,000 Holden 4WD… less than a week after he claimed they ‘had no income’ following his sacking from Triple M
‘So this happened today,’ Lauren captioned her photo of the car, which had a big red bow placed on its bonnet.
‘Happy Father’s Day, Happy Birthday & Merry Christmas for the next 5 yrs! @barryh01’, she added.
Barry was pictured in the corner of the snap beaming excitedly as he held the couple’s 15-month-old son Miller in his arms.
Hmm! Considering their current financial situation, it’s unclear whether Lauren actually purchased the vehicle or whether it was given to the couple as part of a sponsorship deal with a Holden dealership. The pair are pictured with their son Miller, 15 months, earlier this year
The family-size vehicle, which features a full leather interior, is perhaps an investment in Lauren and Barry’s future given that it has plenty of space for any more children they might have.
However, considering their current financial situation, it is unclear whether Lauren actually purchased the vehicle or whether it was given to the couple as part of a sponsorship deal with a Holden dealership.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Lauren and Barry for comment.
Hard times: Earlier this week, Barry told 60 Minutes that he and Lauren had been left without a regular pay cheque after he was sacked for an offensive comment he made on Triple M radio
Earlier this week, Barry told 60 Minutes that he and Lauren had been left without a regular pay cheque after he was sacked for an offensive comment he made on Triple M radio.
‘The thing is, we’ve got no income now,’ he told reporter Charles Wooley.
‘There’s no real light at the end of the tunnel of when that will change or when that will be,’ he added.
Struggles: ‘The thing is, we’ve got no income now,’ Barry told reporter Charles Wooley. ‘There’s no real light at the end of the tunnel of when that will change or when that will be’
The TV interview came two months after Barry made vulgar comments on Triple M about another former AFL star’s pregnant wife.
On June 29, he was delivering pre-game commentary with St Kilda legend Leigh Montagna when he made an offensive comment about Leigh’s pregnant wife Erinn.
The panel was discussing the fact she had recently undergone a ‘sweep’, a technique used by medical professionals to try to induce labour.
Sacked: Barry’s employment with Triple M was terminated on June 29, immediately after he made a vulgar comment on air about another former AFL player’s pregnant wife
Barry ‘joked’ that the male doctor behaved in a sexually inappropriate way, which sparked laughter from the other panellists.
‘It was a bit unrehearsed. It was an off-the-cuff comment that was inappropriate for air,’ he later told 60 Minutes.
‘It shouldn’t have been on the radio. It was a big c**k up’.
Barry’s employment with the network was terminated immediately, and the station issued an apology to its listeners.
Moving on: Two months after the scandal, Barry and Lauren are trying to move on despite their lack of a regular income. Pictured earlier this year with baby Miller
